Wanting to end the year with a team spirit Allied Petroleum contacted us to organise a Christmas function that would also get people's competitive spirits firing.
We created an Amazing Race, with a series of four team challenges located in different parts of Whangarei. Teams had to complete each challenge before being given the clue to the location of the next task.
Challenge 1: Located at their offices so we could keep the whole race a mystery, everyone was divided into four teams. The first task - The Flag Challenge - create a team flag to take with you through the amazing race and then make a 30 second "Fun with Flags" episode about your team and flag.
Challenge 2: A drive out to the next location to space the teams out - The Claybird Challenge - each team member is given 3 shots, miss them all and you need to complete 5 burpees or star jumps once all your team has finished shooting.
Challenge 3: Mixing it up with a different style of challenge - The Brain Game - racing to a different location to be challenged in a different way. No phones and no cheating! Guess the Northland landmarks with the cryptic clues shown. No moving on until all of them are right. A road block was thrown into the mix when the judges determined that one team failed to complete a challenge correctly. Requiring them to do an extra task at Challenge 3.
Challenge 4: We wanted to ensure that there was a community and giving back element to the day, in the spirit of Christmas. Task 4 - Build a Bike - creating a Christmas present for a child in need, the bikes were flat packs with no instructions. Each team member had to participate and in the end the four new bikes were donated to Women's Refuge in time for Christmas. Once the bikes past inspection it was on to the next clue.
Challenge 5: Final destination challenge - Relay at Trigg - carrying farmers buckets with water the teams had to race around the track in a relay to get the buckets from start to finish. Spill the water and you have to start again.
It was a tight race, lots of laughs and a chance for everyone to try something new. The evening ended with drinks and dinner at Trigg Arena, catered by A to Z catering and hosted by Snap Events.
